Abstract
An e-Supply Cain Infrastructure for China, Hong Kong and the World
As China enters into the WTO in 2005, companies throughout China and Hong
Kong will require an e-supply chain infrastructure to support the growing
demand placed on them by new trading relationships with the world. More
and more manufacturers, distributors and retailers are demanding access
to real-time information about the status and location of goods in their
supply chains as they squeeze out inventory and safety stocks and create
more agile supplier networks that can respond to fluctuations in consumer
demand. They are also streamlining their business processes, making the
electronic exchange of business documents such as purchase orders, advance
shipment notices, and invoices the norm. And with all of this information
being transmitted electronically, companies are also looking to capture
extensive supply chain data to report on the overall efficiency of their
supply chains as well as the performance of their suppliers.
During this session, Mr. John Kellett, General Manager at Descartes Systems,
will present an e-supply chain infrastructure that Descartes has in place
today to support global trade between China, Hong Kong and the world.
That infrastructure brings together supply chain execution systems with
real-time data collection and electronic business document exchange for
improved supply chain efficiency, performance management, and customer
responsiveness. Mr. Kellett will also discuss connectivity between trading
partners via the Descartes Global Logistics Services Network, which today
connects thousands of shippers and air, road and ocean carriers to support
logistics communications and business document exchange worldwide.
